Be Careful What You Wish For

A poem which contrasts most pleasingly with the titularly identical poem about Jennifer Titmus, the girl who really was Christmas mad.

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day

I wish it could be Christmas every day, with the shops all heaving and people in my way,
I wish I could eat mince pies every day, and Alka Seltzer and cranberry sauce till May,
I wish I'd decorations up all year, and marzipan stolens and Christmas wassail and beer,
I wish I could send cards every week, to Aunty Bessie and Cousin Fergus, the geek,
I wish I ate prawn rings at every meal, and Celebrations and extra-crunchy mixed peel,
I wish I could get presents every day, and have socks and scarves and soaps to give away,
I wish that it was freezing all the year, with icicles dinging and snowmen singing, my dear,
I wish I had my relatives round me every night, I'd be handing out eggnog to all the men in white,
But I don't suppose I'll get what this entails, so bugger your Christmas, there's always the January sales.
